  • The Carolina Pine Quilters meet ​on the 2nd Monday of the month at
    ​Trinity United Methodist Church, 2724 Whiskey Road, Aiken SC.

  • May 10 | Quilts of Valor, Ann Mixon

    Our guest speaker for the May meeting will be Anne Mixon who is the South Carolina State Coordinator for Quilts of Valor.   She has held that position since 2008 and, in that time, about 20,000 quilts have been made in SC.   She will tell us about the purpose of Quilts of Valor and how we can be involved.   Several ladies in our guild have already been involved by quilting them and binding them.   Anne plans to present several QOVs to veterans at our meeting and we will be able to see first-hand how special it is for veterans to receive them.

    With social distancing in mind, we will have the tables set up with 4 chairs at each table, and please wear your mask as you come in and move about.​

  • June 14 | Speaker - Anita Bowen | Potholes, Roadblocks and Detours

    ​Anita Bowen, from Columbia, will be our guest lecturer at our June 14 meeting.  Her lecture is titled "Potholes, Roadblocks, and Detours."

    Anita is a popular teacher at Quilters of SC retreats and she brings a lot of enthusiasm to her lectures and classes.  Her most popular class has been "Galaxy Stars" as shown in the picture below.

    We will be collecting items for the Welcome Baby Program for new mothers, sponsored by
    Mental Health Association of Aiken.  The items include diapers, formula, wipes and clothes. Please bring some of these items to our meeting in June.

  • August 9 | Lee Chappell Monroe, Understanding the Rainbow

    Our August speaker will be Lee Chappell Monroe.  She is the owner and designer of May Chappell Patterns and a trained graphic designer.  She is also a Bernina Ambassador and Craftsy instructor.  Lee is a member the of Triad Modern Quilt Guild in Winton Salem, NC.

    Lee will present her fabulous  lecture on “Understanding the Rainbow” along with a trunk show at our August meeting.

    During her part of the evening, Susan Congdon will be showing how to do a faux flange binding completely by machine.  It’s a fun technique with great results.

  • October 11 | Candace Hanssen, from Porterville, GA, "Inspiration" Trunk Show

    ​Candace Hassen will be our speaker at the October guild meeting. She is from Porterdale, GA and is an independent quilt pattern designer. Her trunk show program is called Inspiration. She has 20 large quilts to show, and most are bed sized. She shares how she got the idea to make each one, along with the strategies she used throughout the process to stay organized

    Diane Brace from The Lydia Project will speak about how the program supports people undergoing cancer treatment: providing Lydia bags with contents to help people on their journey through cancer treatment.  The home base is Augusta, GA.

    Some CPQ members make some of the bags for The Lydia Project.  They will be gathering to make bags from 12:30-4:00 PM on Feb 20 at Hobby Lobby in Aiken.  Kits will be provided.
    More About The Lydia Project

    The Lydia Project provides free services to women and girls anywhere facing any type of cancer.  This support includes ongoing correspondence and encouragement every month for at least twelve months. 

    Locally, Lydia grants funds for rent, utility, medical supplies, and prescription assistance to women who are unable to afford these basic expenses while undergoing cancer treatment and who reside in Georgia's Burke, Columbia, McDuffie and Richmond Counties; and South Carolina's Aiken and Edgefield Counties.

    Women and teenage girls needing overnight stay to receive cancer treatment or testing in the CSRA find incredible help from Lydia's lodging services.  The ten bedroom facility with twenty beds and a private bathroom for each room provides a retreat environment for women and their caregivers.  Women, teenage girls, and caregivers who reside more than thirty miles from Augusta or Aiken can stay at the Daksha Chudgar Lydia House for closer proximity to their physician or treatment site.

    Every woman and girl served receives a handmade, designer tote filled with encouraging items and Lydia's copyrighted journal.  Although each tote is unique in design, all are carried by a purple handle that is a visual bond between women coping with cancer.  Girls younger than 10 years receive a handmade quilt with their favorite colors and characters.

    In many cities nationwide, physician offices and hospitals distribute Lydia totes directly to patients.  See if your community is already part of the Lydia network. 

    Lydia provides physicians, nurses, social workers and other healthcare professionals a place to go for supportive and financial assistance for their patients. Just having the extra support Lydia gives makes an impacting difference in patients' care. Lydia meets a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided. 

    Women and girls in all 50 states and many countries have received totes and support from Lydia.   Dedicated volunteers all over the nation help make outreach possible to women served.

  • March 9 | First and Favorite - National Quilt Month

    Members are requested to bring and speak about the First Quilt and/or the Favorite Quilt they created. 

    If a quilt is no longer available, a photograph will do.
